About the role

PATHOLOGY CLINICAL NURSE CONSULTANT
Part Time - 8 hours per week

 

Colac Area Health is a values-based organisation providing a unique integrated health service comprising of over 500 employees, providing Acute Care, Aged Care, Community and Allied Health Services.

 

The Pathology Clinical Nurse Consultant is the dedicated pathology resource at Colac Area Health (CAH), providing clinical governance and operational leadership for the CAH Pathology Program. This role combines the clinical and operational accountabilities of coordinating the pathology service.

 

Reporting to the Executive Director of Clinical Services, the role operates with a high degree of autonomy and works collaboratively with, and draws on, the specialist advice and program support of Australian Clinical Labs (ACL) and external partners as required.

 

What’s required? 

 

Essential:

  • Current registration with AHPRA in relevant discipline (scientist, allied health, nursing)
  • Highly self-motivated, with proven ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment with limited on-site supervision, as the sole dedicated pathology resource at CAH.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple, competing tasks, priorities and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of partnering with consumers concepts and principles and demonstrated application in improving care.
  • Practical knowledge and experience with safety and quality performance indicators, including monitoring and reporting requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal, facilitation and relationship-management skills, including the ability to work effectively with an external/independent pathology provider.
  • Experience using the Riskman system, monitoring incidents and undertaking case reviews.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to prepare concise, accurate and informative documents including agendas and reports.
  • Working knowledge of contracts, SLA and KPI monitoring, with the judgement to escalate matters appropriately.
  • Valid Victorian driver licence. Travel between sites, including to external hospitals and/or laboratories may be required as part of the role.

 

Desirable:

  • Demonstrated clinical excellence and extensive consolidation in a clinical pathology or transferrable/related setting.
  • Healthcare leadership or management qualification.
  • Experience and/ or Qualification in Safety and Quality.
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
  • Working knowledge of contracts, SLA and KPI monitoring, with the judgement to escalate matters appropriately.
  • Experience in Clinical Pathology or working within a pathology service model.
