Interim Director – Urgent Care Services

Part time, 12-20 hours per week (Clinical + Management)

We are seeking a passionate and capable Interim Director – Urgent Care Services to lead the implementation of Colac Area Health’s medical model trial and guide the future of urgent and emergency care in our region. Reporting clinically to the Clinical Director Medical Services and professionally to the Executive Director Medical Services, this inaugural leadership role will have both clinical and strategic responsibilities.

You will be responsible for the clinical governance and day-to-day oversight of Colac Area Health’s Urgent Care Services, including the Short Stay Unit and Emergency response functions. Working in partnership with the established nursing and management teams, you will ensure high-quality, patient-centred care and contribute to the long-term development of a sustainable and safe service model.

Your role will include participating in clinical shifts and actively leading the clinical team, while also supporting senior and junior medical staff in a mentoring and supervisory capacity.

As our ideal candidate you would have:

  • Current general and unconditional AHPRA registration (no undertakings, conditions or reprimands).
  • Fellowship with RACGP, ACRRM, ACEM, or RNZCUC with demonstrated ability to deliver specialist-level services.
  • Minimum 3 years of recent experience in a Senior Medical Officer role within an Emergency Department or Urgent Care setting, with confidence to manage the department independently.
  • Proven leadership experience within multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Experience in supervision and support of medical staff across all levels.
  • Current Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support certification.
  • Eligibility and availability to undertake Senior Medical Officer shifts within CAH’s Urgent Care Services.
