Entry to Perioperative Program

Duration: 12 Months (02.02.2026 to 31.01.2027)
Location: Perioperative Services, Colac Area Health

 

Program Overview: Colac Area Health is offering a 12-month Entry to Perioperative Program designed specifically for Registered Nurses limited experience in perioperative nursing. This comprehensive program provides a unique opportunity to develop specialised skills and knowledge in the perioperative environment.

 

Program Components:

 

  • Courses through ACORN:
    • Fundamentals of Perioperative Nursing
    • Fundamentals of Anaesthetic Nursing
    • Completion of Advanced Life Support for adults and paediatrics at the end of the program

 

  • Study Days:
    • 10-12 paid study days to complete the ACORN courses

 

  • Resources:
    • A comprehensive resource manual with activities to enhance your development

 

  • Rotation Plan:
    • Develop capabilities to work in each area of perioperative services, including:
      • Instrument and Circulating Nursing
      • Post Anaesthetic Care Nursing
      • Day Surgery Unit (DSU)
      • Anaesthetic Nursing

 

  • Mentorship:
    • Appointment of a mentor to guide and support you throughout the program

What’s required? 

 

ESSENTIAL:

  • Registered Nurse - Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Specific qualifications and experience relevant to particular clinical areas.
  • Ability to organise work in a systematic, accurate and timely manner and be flexible in a changing environment.
  • Demonstrate skills in teamwork and leadership.
  • Computer literacy.

 

DESIRABLE:

  • Completion of recognised Graduate Program.
