About the role
CLINICAL LEAD - SURGERY
Fixed Term 09.02.2026 to 07.02.2027
Fractional – 4 hours per fortnight
Colac Area Health is a values-based organisation providing a unique integrated health service comprising of over 500 employees, providing Acute Care, Aged Care, Community and Allied Health Services.
The Clinical Lead - Surgery will be responsible for the medical leadership and oversight of surgical services at CAH as well as assisting with clinical governance and quality assurance. This is a senior clinician management role with the primary focus to provide clinical leadership, expertise, and management (in collaboration with Executive Management and Nurse Unit Managers) for surgical services at CAH (including surgical perioperative services, planned surgery unit and clinics).
What’s required?
Essential:
- Current AHPRA medical registration without conditions, undertakings or reprimands
- Fellows of clinical Colleges FRACS, RACGP, ACRRM, with completion of relevant post graduate surgical training and a demonstrated ability to provide quality specialist level clinical services
- Current experience as Senior Medical Officer in surgical role and competency to be in charge of department
- Demonstrated ability to effectively lead clinical team and collaborate as a key lead of multi-disciplinary health care team
- Experience in the support and supervision of Senior and Junior Medical Staff
- Meets eligibility and ability to commit to senior medical officer clinical shifts at CAH
Desirable:
- Knowledge of health issues and community needs in relation to CAH’s catchments
- Familiarity with CAH’s clinical workforce and referral pathways
- Acknowledgement of CAH strategic themes
- Understanding of CAH and Department of Health key performance measures related to perioperative services operational efficiency outcomes (e.g. ESIS, activity targets, efficiency metrics, NWAU)
