The on call role (FACEM or Supervising GP) provides medical oversight to ensure the safety, quality, and continuity of care for patients in the Urgent Care Centre (UCC) and the Acute Ward. The role includes both on-site supervision during weekdays, weekends and public holidays and remote support outside of those hours, including overnight on-call responsibilities.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Care & Supervision
- Provide clinical oversight and supervision for HMOs, Registrars and SMO in UCC
- Senior medical decision-making support to all clinical staff
- Active participant in the assessment and treatment of patients
- Assume responsibility for quality patient care in accordance with the care model of the UCC or Acute Ward, ensuring that clinical procedures are performed in accordance with CAH policy and procedure
- Review and supervise management plan of patients who have been reviewed by Registrars, HMOs, or Nurses.
- Endorse clinical team's assessments to admit, discharge, or transfer patients
- Be physically present on weekdays, weekends and public holidays
- Be on call remotely outside of these hours (including 1700-0730 for the acute ward)
- Respond to callouts and attend UCC or the Acute Ward as clinically indicated
- Provide advice via phone and escalate care appropriately
CURRENT ROSTERING OPTIONS INCLUDE:
Acute Ward GP
- Weekday acute ward onsite 0800 - 1200 (+ on-call 1200 - 1700)
- Weekend / PH acute ward onsite 0800 - 1200 (no on-call)
Supervising FACEM or On-Call GP for Hospital (UC and Acute Ward)
- Weekday onsite 1200 - 2000 (+ on-call 0800 - 0800)
- Weekend + PH onsite 1200 - 2000 (+ on-call 0800 - 0800)
All documented hours are subject to change.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate and timely records of patient care, including completing discharge summaries
- Complete all necessary documentation related to patient care and supervision in line with hospital protocols and regulations
Qualifications, Experience and Personal Attributes Essential:
- Candidates must hold either GP fellowship or FACEM fellowship registration with AHPRA.
- Candidates must hold general or fellowship registration only with AHPRA as provisional registration are not acceptable for this position.
- A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in an Australian urgent care or emergency medicine setting
- Strong clinical decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities
Desirable:
- Experience in rural or regional health services
- Familiarity with CAH systems, workftows and protocols
- Postgraduate qualifications in Emergency Medicine
Credentialing will be required prior to commencement.
