Aboriginal Health Liaison Officer
Part Time – 12 hours per week
(2 positions available)

 

Colac Area Health (CAH) is a values-based organisation providing a unique integrated health service comprising of over 500 employees, providing Acute Care, Aged Care, Community and Allied Health Services.

 

CAH is seeking motivated individuals to join our organisation in the role of Aboriginal Health Liaison Officer.

 

The Aboriginal Health Liaison Officer (AHLO) is responsible for supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients with health-related issues, accessing services at Colac Area Health. The AHLO assists Colac Area Health staff to provide culturally safe and respectful care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and their families. The role carries responsibilities for effective liaison and linkage with key community-controlled organisations in line with the Colac Area Health Aboriginal Cultural Safety Plan and the Improving Care for Aboriginal Patients (ICAP) strategy. One of the key responsibilities is data/information management in accordance with Department of Health (DH) requirements.

 

What’s required?

 

Essential:

 

  • Qualification relevant to mental health and drugs and alcohol, such as certificate IV in Mental Health, Certificate or Diploma in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, or Diploma of Community Services.
  • The person identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and can provide confirmation in accordance with the Colac Area Health Policy and Guideline.
  • Experience in working in a support and advocacy role with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples/communities and organisations.
  • Sound knowledge of Aboriginal culture, with relevance to chronic diseases, holistic health and wellbeing.
  • The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

 

Desirable:

 

  • Understanding of local pathways and networks.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with multi level stakeholders.
  • Current drivers license.
