About the role
The Volunteer Coordinator leads the development, implementation and sustainability of Volunteer Programs that respond to identified organisational needs and support Barwon Health’s purpose of delivering Best Care, Every Day so that Everyone Feels Better.
This role ensures all volunteer programs are strategically aligned to organisational priorities, with a strong focus on Strategic Priority 1 – Deliver Best Care. Programs are designed to enhance innovative, flexible and person-centred care, creating meaningful support opportunities for Barwon Health consumers.
The position also contributes to Strategic Priority 3 – Ensure Our Future by building sustainable volunteer frameworks within sponsoring departments, and by recruiting, training and supporting a skilled, engaged and valued volunteer workforce.
Key Responsibilities

Assess and endorse Volunteer Program proposals to ensure alignment with organisational priorities, compliance requirements and strategic objectives at Barwon Health.

Lead the establishment of new Volunteer Programs, including development of program plans, role descriptions, policies, procedures, training frameworks and implementation timelines.

Provide high-level advice and guidance to sponsoring department executives and managers to define program scope, structure and support requirements within budget and compliance parameters.

Coordinate end-to-end volunteer recruitment and onboarding processes, including targeted attraction strategies, screening, compliance, education and safe work standards.

Oversee implementation and transition of programs to departmental management, providing training, operational support, and guidance on performance and grievance matters.

Monitor, evaluate and report on program effectiveness, fostering continuous quality improvement, stakeholder engagement, and volunteer satisfaction
What we’re looking for
-
Demonstrated experience in volunteer recruitment, coordination and program delivery, including rostering and database management.

Proven supervisory experience leading and coordinating small to medium-sized teams, with the ability to influence and build effective stakeholder relationships.

Experience developing and implementing systems, controls and compliant program frameworks within a health or similar regulated environment.

Strong capability to drive programs to achieve defined objectives, manage complaints and grievances, and adapt to changing organisational needs.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and large database systems, with highly developed written communication, presentation and marketing skills (including business cases, reports, grant applications and social media engagement).
