About the role

 

An exciting opportunity to complete the Emergency Transition to Specialty Practice Program.  There are multiple positions available, with the Program commencing on the 20th of July 2026.  Successful applicants will be supported with our well-established structured program and have rotations through adult and children’s emergency.

 

The successful applicants will have emergency nursing experience and excellent communication skills. Also required is a motivation to continued professional development and flexibility to work all shifts on a monthly self-request roster.  

 

About the program

The course aims to build on your knowledge via online content, face-to-face study days and clinical support, to enhance and extend your practice through a structured clinical progression program. A comprehensive orientation to the ED will be provided including supernumerary shifts in your initial transition to the program.

Concepts explored will include comprehensive patient assessment of adults and paediatrics, introduction to ECG interpretation and high dependency nursing care skills, including non-invasive ventilation and management of invasive monitoring. The aim is to transition into working in the resuscitation area with the support of the Emergency Education Team.

 

The program aims to:

  • Further develop the confidence and advanced competence of the emergency nurse within a supportive clinical setting.
  • Develop the specialised knowledge and skills required to ensure safety and quality of emergency care.
  • Ensure development of core foundational and advanced skills and knowledge to enable safe delivery of care.
  • Participants will develop and demonstrate the capacity to problem solve and think critically in the Emergency Department clinical environment.
  • Participants will demonstrate an alignment of clinical and theoretical knowledge while planning and implementing the care of the patient requiring emergency care.

 

What we’re looking for

  • Registered Nurse with a minimum of 12 months acute nursing experience
  • Previous emergency nursing experience.

 

Key responsibilities

  •  Provide assessment and emergency nursing care to patients of all ages
  • Manage acute and life-threatening conditions in a dynamic environment
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, paramedics, and allied health staff
  • Administer medications and treatments safely and effectively
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and uphold patient safety standards
  • Support patients and families with empathy, clarity, and professionalism
  • Contribute to quality improvement, education, and professional development activities
