About the role
An exciting opportunity is available to undertake the Transition to Specialty Practice (TSP): Cardiac Services, commencing in February 2026, with multiple positions on offer. This 12-month, well-established program supports nurses with acute clinical experience to develop specialist knowledge and skills in cardiac care across the inpatient ward. Combining online learning, face-to-face study days and structured clinical support, the program enhances practice through progressive skill development and comprehensive orientation, including supernumerary shifts. Successful applicants will demonstrate strong communication skills, the ability to work both autonomously and within a supportive team, and a clear commitment to ongoing professional development.
Included in the program
- 2 day introductory ECG course
- Attend cardiac theatre to observe cardiac surgery
- Care for post-operative patients in the cardiothoracic step-down unit
- Attend cardiac catheter laboratory to observe interventional cardiology procedures
Key responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive cardiovascular assessments, including rhythm interpretation and haemodynamic monitoring
- Monitor and manage patients with acute and chronic cardiac conditions
- Recognise and respond promptly to clinical deterioration or cardiac emergencies
- Provide pre- and post-procedural care for patients undergoing cardiac investigations or interventions
- Educate patients and families on cardiac conditions, treatment plans and lifestyle modifications
- Collaborate closely with cardiologists and the multidisciplinary team to coordinate care
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure safe clinical handover
- Promote evidence-based practice and participate in quality improvement initiatives
What we’re looking for
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Proven ability to recognise and respond promptly to clinical deterioration
- Compassionate, calm and patient-focused approach in high-acuity environments
- Highly organised with excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and evidence-based practice
