About the facility

Our major sites include University Hospital Geelong in Geelong’s CBD, the McKellar Centre precinct in North Geelong, Barwon Health North in Norlane, and residential aged care facilities spanning the region. Comprehensive mental health, community health and dental services are delivered through various programs across the Barwon South West Region, including Torquay and Colac.

Bellarine Centre 5 is a 34 bed combined Cardiology and Cardiothoracic unit which consists of 6 coronary care, 18 cardiology and 10 cardiothoracic beds. The cardiology service operates a 24-hour emergency STEMI service, along with the complete range of diagnostic, medical and interventional cardiology.

 

About the role

An exciting opportunity to complete the Transition to Specialty Practice (TSP): Cardiac Services. There are multiple positions available with the Program commencing in February 2026.  The successful applicants will have acute nursing experience, excellent communication skills and a motivation to continued professional development.

 

Applicants will be supported with our well-established structured program; working autonomously whilst being part of a supportive team.

 

The Program

The Transition to Specialty Practice (TSP): Cardiac Services, is a 12 month supported position, where nurses gain specialist knowledge and skills caring for cardiac patients across the in-patient ward.  The course aims to build on your knowledge via online content, face-to-face study days and clinical support, to enhance and extend your practice through a structured clinical progression program.  A comprehensive orientation to the cardiac ward will be provided including supernumerary shifts in your initial transition to the program.

 

Included in the program

  • 2 day introductory ECG course
  • Attend cardiac theatre to observe cardiac surgery
  • Care for post-operative patients in the cardiothoracic step-down unit  
  • Attend cardiac catheter laboratory to observe interventional cardiology procedures

 

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse with minimum of 1 year acute nursing experience
