About the role

McKellar Kids Rehab incorporates the Victorian Paediatric Rehabilitation Service and Young Adults Transition Service.  The primary role of the Social Worker is to provide psychosocial assessment and comprehensive care of children, adolescents and their families following complex illness, injury or surgery.

As a Social Worker you will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary rehabilitation team and with community partners to deliver high quality, evidence-based, coordinated care. You will be required to provide consultation in relation to psychosocial issues associated with rehabilitation or health transition, with the aim of maximising the efficacy of the full range of interventions delivered by McKellar Kids Rehab. 

The position is based at the McKellar Centre and includes supporting children and youth at home, school and in other community settings.  This role may support the development Grade 1 and 2 social work staff and undergraduate students through supervision and guidance.

 

Key responsibilities 

  • Deliver individualised assessment, care planning, intervention, and evaluation within a multidisciplinary team, while managing a day-to-day clinical caseload.
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, contribute to care coordination, and communicate professionally to support integrated consumer care.
  • Participate in committees or projects, support junior staff and students through supervision, and help develop policies, quality improvement initiatives, and service improvements.
  • Uphold AASW standards, Barwon Health policies, CPD requirements, cultural safety, risk management, and ensure accurate, timely documentation and use of health systems.

 

What we’re looking for 

  • Accredited Bachelor or entry-level Master of Social Work, eligibility for AASW membership, and compliance with AASW CPD requirements and Code of Ethics.
  • Meets Award/Agreement classification requirements, demonstrated clinical experience, and capability for independent practice.
  • Active engagement in relevant professional development, reflective practice, and applying learning into clinical work.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate independently and inclusively, and proficiency in IT systems aligned with Barwon Health values.
