About the role
We are seeking a Social Worker to join the University Hospital Geelong Social Work team, primarily within the Specialist Medicine Social Work service, with the opportunity to work across other UHG teams and the Inpatient Rehabilitation team at McKellar Centre as required. This role operates within a dynamic, team-based and multidisciplinary environment, working closely with nurses, doctors, and other allied health professionals to deliver high-quality psychosocial care. Staff may be rostered across a 7-day week, depending on service needs, with opportunities to work across both acute and sub-acute settings at UHG and IRC campuses. The role is supported by strong peer collaboration within the Social Work team and offers exposure to diverse clinical areas across Barwon Health. Weekend work is remunerated at time and a half, public holidays at double time, and staff working 10 or more weekends per year are entitled to an additional week of annual leave.
Key responsibilities
- Provide evidence-based social work assessment, intervention, and care planning within a multidisciplinary team across acute and sub-acute settings, ensuring high-quality psychosocial support for consumers and families.
- Manage a clinical caseload within the designated area, ensuring timely, accurate documentation and adherence to Barwon Health policies, clinical standards, and consumer care requirements.
- Contribute to collaborative practice, service improvement, and professional development through effective communication, participation in supervision, quality activities, and ongoing learning.
- Practice in accordance with professional, ethical, and legal standards, including AASW requirements, while demonstrating culturally safe, inclusive, and person-centred care.
What we’re looking for
- Eligible for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), with a Bachelor or entry-level Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited program.
- Strong foundational clinical knowledge and skills in social work practice within a health setting, including psychosocial assessment, care planning, and intervention.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced acute and sub-acute environment, with good communication and collaboration skills.
- Commitment to evidence-based practice, professional development, and adherence to ethical, legal, and organisational standards, including flexibility to work across rotating and 7-day rosters.
