About the role

The Emergency Mental Health (EMH) team is a specialist 24/7, 7-day-a-week service providing acute mental health and alcohol and other drug (AOD) assessment and intervention across the Emergency Department, MHAOD Hub, and community settings. As a tertiary-level, multidisciplinary team, EMH clinicians respond to individuals and families experiencing mental health and AOD crises, delivering timely, recovery-oriented care in high-acuity environments.

This role operates at the frontline of crisis response, including co-responder outreach with Victoria Police (PACER), and plays a critical role in supporting safe, coordinated access to Mental Health, Drugs and Alcohol Services (MHDAS). Clinicians work collaboratively with consumers, families and service partners, recognising and responding to diverse cultural needs to ensure care is person-centred and appropriate to individual circumstances.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver timely, evidence-based mental health and AOD assessments across ED, MHAOD Hub and community settings, including PACER responses, to support safe and effective clinical outcomes.
  • Act as a single point of entry to MHDAS, ensuring individuals and families are triaged and connected to the most appropriate services in a timely and coordinated manner.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary framework to support shared decision-making with consumers and families, incorporating cultural awareness into all aspects of assessment, care planning and intervention.

What We Are Looking For

  • We’re seeking experienced, adaptable clinicians who thrive in fast-paced, high-acuity environments and are confident delivering mental health and AOD assessments across hospital and community settings. You’ll bring strong clinical judgement, collaborative practice, and a commitment to culturally responsive, person-centred care.
