About the role

Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Services (MHDAS) provide integrated, recovery-oriented mental health, alcohol and other drug assessment, treatment and community support to people across the Barwon region experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, mental health and/or substance use challenges.

The Community Acute Intervention Service is a specialist multidisciplinary team operating seven days a week across two shifts, providing acute community-based mental health and AOD assessment and brief intervention support. The service responds to consumers requiring timely tertiary mental health intervention, including community assessments, short-term acute treatment and emergency department follow-up support.

We are seeking highly motivated senior clinicians to provide acute community assessment and treatment for consumers experiencing acute mental health and/or alcohol and other drug concerns. The role also contributes to the ongoing development of the service and supports the day-to-day operations of the multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake comprehensive community-based mental health and AOD assessments for consumers referred through Triage
  • Provide brief acute intervention and recovery-oriented treatment for consumers in the acute phase of illness
  • Deliver emergency department follow-up support and facilitate appropriate referral pathways
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to provide coordinated care and clinical decision making
  • Contribute to service development, clinical leadership and continuous improvement initiatives

We are seeking an experienced passionate Registered Psychiatric Nurse who thrives working within fast-paced acute mental health environments and is committed to recovery-oriented care.
