About Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Services (MHDAS)  

MHDAS provides integrated and recovery oriented mental health, drugs and alcohol assessment, treatment and community support to people of all ages within the Barwon region experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, mental health and drug & alcohol issues, and their families.  

Our service is internationally recognised for its innovative clinical programs and integrated models of practice that are client centred, accessible and family inclusive. We are fortunate to enjoy terrific internal relationships and have developed excellent partnerships with the local community that provide for seamless integrated care for our clients.  

MHDAS is entering a new phase of co-design of our service system with people who access our services and our wider community. This will build on our nationally recognized unique cultural approach to the challenges of recovery-oriented service delivery to redesign our service system.   

 

About the facility 

Our major sites include University Hospital Geelong in Geelong’s CBD, the McKellar Centre precinct in North Geelong, Barwon Health North in Norlane, and residential aged care facilities spanning the region. Comprehensive mental health, community health and dental services are delivered through various programs across the Barwon Southwest Region, including Torquay and Colac.   

About the facility Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Services (MHDAS) provide integrated, and recovery orientated mental health, drugs and alcohol assessment, treatment and community support to people of all ages within the Barwon region experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, mental health and / or drug and alcohol issues, and their families. 

 

The Community – Acute Intervention Service is a 7-day a week service with two shifts. The team is a tertiary level multidisciplinary mental health drug and alcohol team.

The team will:

  • undertake assessments rated by Triage as Category B (CAT B) or Category C (CAT C) for 12-65 age range
  • provide brief intervention to consumers requiring tertiary mental health treatment for up to a maximum of 28 days where consumers are in an acute phase of their illness, are not otherwise engaged with community mental health services and are aged 16-65
  • provide ED post follow up phone calls to consumers who have left the ED after assessment and are not referred to other tertiary mental health services

About You 

  • Registered Psychiatric Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker or Clinical Psychologist
  • Must have experience in acute mental health and AOD assessment and treatment
  • Be able to demonstrate advanced level of clinical skills the assessment and treatment of people with acute mental health and substance use disorders in a community setting

About the role 

We are seeking a highly motivated senior clinician to provide acute community assessment and treatment for people in the acute phase of their mental illness and/or alcohol and other drug (AOD) use. Additionally, you will demonstrate leadership in both the ongoing development of the acute intervention service and day-to-day operations of the team.
