About the facility
The Safety, Quality and Improvement (SQI) Unit's role at Barwon Health is to support and guide staff to provide the best possible care for our consumers and foster a culture of excellence. Unit responsibilities include:
- Clinical Governance and Risk Management
- Consumer Experience and Partnering with Consumer Advisors
- Monitoring and Implementing Healthcare and Clinical care Standards
- Clinical Auditing
About the role

As the SQI Coordinator, you will play a vital role in shaping excellence in care across the Women's Services: (Birth Suite, Midwifery Day Assessment Unit, Special Care Nursery)
You’ll be working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and reporting to the Deputy Director of Patient Safety, while partnering with clinical leaders and managers within the Women's, Children's & Families Directorate to embed robust governance, support incident response, engage consumers, and drive improvement projects that make care safer and more person-centred.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Lead development and implementation of Safety, Quality & Improvement plans
- Coordinate clinical governance activities and facilitate performance reporting
- Support incident and clinical risk management, including leading reviews and RiskMan analysis
- Collaborate with teams on Partnering with Consumers and complaint resolution initiatives
- Help prepare for accreditation and meet NSQHS Standards
- Facilitate quality improvement projects that respond to data, feedback, and emerging risks
What You’ll Bring:
Essential:
- A qualification in a healthcare profession and at least 2 years of clinical experience
- Strong leadership, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Excellent communication and documentation abilities
- Working knowledge of incident management systems such as RiskMan
Desirable:
- Experience in quality and safety systems or project coordination
- Postgraduate qualifications in midwifery (highly regarded)
- Familiarity with clinical governance and consumer partnership standards
