About the role
Under the supervision of the ICU Head of Research, have responsibility for the implementation and management of research studies undertaken in the department and the delivery of direct and indirect care associated with these studies, in accordance with the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) Note for Guidance on Good Clinical Practice (CPMP/ICH/135/95) and the National and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) National statement on Ethical Conduct in Research involving humans.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage allocated clinical trials, ensuring strict adherence to research protocols, ethical standards (NMBA, NHMRC), and Good Clinical Practice (TGA/GCP). Prepare ethics and governance applications and oversee study budgets.
- Conduct patient screening and assessments, provide clear information for informed consent, support patients and families throughout participation, and ensure safety and wellbeing, including withdrawal or unblinding when required.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation of all study data, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and proper storage, submission, and archiving of research records.
- Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team to support research delivery, contribute to a positive ICU research culture, and maintain ongoing professional development, training, and compliance with AHPRA requirements.
