About the role
As a Grade 3 Registered Psychiatric Nurse within the Mental Health Hospital in the Home (MHHITH) service, you will deliver acute, hospital-level mental health care in consumers’ homes as part of a progressive alternative to inpatient admission.
MHHITH is a key component of the MHDAS acute care continuum, sitting alongside inpatient units, crisis assessment teams, and community services. It enables consumers to receive intensive, short-term treatment in their own environment, supporting recovery while reducing hospital admissions.
This model is a direct outcome of the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System, positioning MHHITH as a flagship reform service within MHDAS.
Working in this service offers:
- A high level of clinical autonomy and decision-making
- Exposure to acute presentations in real-world settings
- Opportunities to build advanced skills in risk assessment, brief interventions and crisis care
- Close collaboration across the broader MHDAS system
You will work across a rotating roster, delivering responsive, recovery-oriented care within a dynamic multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver acute mental health assessment and risk management in community settings
- Provide evidence-based, recovery-oriented interventions to consumers and families
- Collaborate with MHDAS teams and external services to ensure coordinated, integrated care
