About the role
This role is located at The McKellar Mental Health & Wellbeing Centre (MH&WBC), a modern, purpose-built acute inpatient mental health facility located within Barwon Health’s McKellar Centre precinct. The service provides high-quality, recovery-oriented care for adults experiencing acute mental health challenges, with a strong focus on safety, engagement, and collaborative treatment planning. Our multidisciplinary team works closely with consumers, families, carers, and community supports to promote stabilisation, wellbeing, and transition back to the community.
Your primary responsibility is to provide high quality, best practice direct delivery of psychiatric treatment and care to consumers (50+) as part of a multidisciplinary team which operates within a holistic recovery-based model.
We are seeking registered psychiatric nurses with:
- Experience in the complexities of working in Acute Mental Health
- A genuine interest in delivering recovery oriented, consumer centred delivery of care.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to function as a member of the multidisciplinary team
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality, recovery-oriented psychiatric nursing care, including comprehensive mental state assessments, risk-informed care planning, and evidence-based interventions within a multidisciplinary team
- Maintain accurate, compliant clinical documentation and actively participate in clinical reviews, handovers, therapy programs, and family/carer engagement to support continuity of care
- Contribute to service quality and safety through adherence to clinical standards, participation in quality improvement activities, incident reporting (RiskMan), and alignment with National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards
What We Are Looking For
- A Registered Psychiatric Nurse who demonstrates strong clinical capability in acute mental health, including risk assessment, care planning, and delivery of evidence-based interventions
- A collaborative practitioner with well-developed communication skills, able to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and engage consumers, families, and carers
- A professional committed to continuous learning, compliance, and reflective practice, including meeting AHPRA CPD requirements, participating in supervision, and adhering to policies, legislation, and clinical standards
