About the role 

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Registered Nurse Grade 2 to join the BAX7 team within Medicine, Specialist Medicine and Emergency at Barwon Health.

Baxter 7 is a 32 bed General Medical unit encompassing general medicine, endocrinology and infectious diseases. The staff are highly-skilled, professional, friendly and dedicated, taking pride in providing high-quality, safe healthcare. University Hospital Geelong is located in the heart of central Geelong, minutes from the picturesque waterfront and a short drive to the Bellarine and Surf Coast. 

In this role, you will deliver high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centred care while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. You will play a key role in supporting positive patient outcomes through effective communication, clinical assessment, and care planning.

As a Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for providing safe and effective care in accordance with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Board (AHPRA) standards, Barwon Health policies, and National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards. You will contribute to a culture of safety, quality improvement, and continuous learning within the unit.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, evidence-based, patient-centred nursing care in accordance with professional and organisational standards
  • Monitor, assess, and respond to the complex needs of acute oncology and haematology patients
  • Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated and high-quality care planning and delivery
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation using Barwon Health systems
  • Participate in quality improvement, safety initiatives, and continuous professional development activities
  • Support patients and families through clear communication, education, and compassionate care

 

What we’re looking for

  • Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-acuity, complex clinical environment
  • Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice and ongoing professional development
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a supportive and dynamic team environment
  • Understanding of or willingness to develop skills in endocrinology and infectious diseases nursing care
