About the Role

The Registered Anaesthetics and PACU Nurse is responsible for the provision of patient focus nursing care to those assigned to them, in order to achieve desired clinical outcomes. You will work with and provide support to innovative teams who strive to maintain knowledge and excellence.  Our dedicated teams pride themselves on providing high quality patient centred care in an environment that has modern, well-equipped facilities. Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care in the Anaesthetic and PACU environments.
  • Prepare patients for surgery and assist the anaesthetist during induction, maintenance, and emergence from anaesthesia.
  • Monitor and assess patients in the recovery phase, responding promptly to changes in clinical condition.
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with organisational policies and professional standards.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation.
  • Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anaesthetists, and the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention, patient safety, and quality improvement standards.
  • Support and mentor junior staff and students as appropriate.

 

What we’re looking for

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board.
  • Demonstrated experience in Anaesthetics and/or PACU nursing.
  • Excellent assessment, communication, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and evidence-based practice.

 

Main Operating Theatre

Operating Services at University Geelong Main theatre offers a round-the-clock service with ten operating theatres. Beyond elective surgeries, the department handles semi-urgent and emergency procedures. Specialities encompass Cardiothoracic, ENT, Gastroenterology, General Surgery, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Oral Faciomaxillary, Plastics, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Urology, Vascular and Robotic Surgery. 

 

Youang Surgery Centre

Youang Surgery Centre (YSC) operates Monday to Friday, morning and afternoon. Equipped with seven state of the art theatres, YSC provides comprehensive services in general surgery, urology, maxillofacial, ENT, gynaecology, plastics, ophthalmology, endoscopy, paediatric surgery, and pain procedures.
