About the role
As a Radiographer/Medical Imaging Technologist (Grade 2 MRI), Surgical and Critical Care, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred MRI services within a supportive 24/7 team environment. Working alongside experienced Grade 3 and Grade 4 MRI Radiographers, you will independently perform MRI examinations, supervise junior staff and students, contribute to the safe and efficient operation of the service, and uphold Barwon Health's values of respect, compassion, accountability and innovation. Key Responsibilities
- Independently perform routine MRI scanning techniques and patient safety screening
- Undertake additional clinical responsibilities to a Grade 1 Radiographer/MIT including being available for reasonable overtime, on call and shift duty as part of the 24/7 ‘ABC roster’
- Independently operate all diagnostic imaging equipment including information communication systems.
- Use specialist knowledge in their area of expertise to produce high quality medical images using valid request forms following the principles of ALARA.
- Supervise other medical imaging staff including clinical supervision of Grade 1 radiographer/MITs.
- Supervise and train medical imaging students
- Escalating faults or issues with MRI scanners to the Grade 3 or 4 MRI supervisor, Chief Radiographer, and/or logging faults with vendors.
- Correct identification of patients using 4 step model consisting of: (i) verification of patient information, (ii) matching information against request form, (iii) timeout, (iv) post procedure confirmation of an acceptable image including correct positioning and presentation (side markers, orientation).
- Display high-quality safe care to consumers and implement the Barwon Health values in their daily duties
What we’re looking for
- Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Medical Radiation Practitioner, a valid Victorian Department of Health Radiation Use Licence, and an ASMIRT-recognised tertiary qualification
- Demonstrated specialist MRI knowledge and experience, including post-processing, operation of 1.5T and 3.0T MRI systems, and completion of MRI Part 1 accreditation (or equivalent)
- Proven experience performing a wide range of routine, trauma, and paediatric imaging examinations, including X-ray, mobile X-ray, theatre image intensifier, and fluoroscopy
- Ability to work autonomously, effectively triage imaging requests, maintain workflow efficiency, and consistently produce high-quality diagnostic images while adhering to ALARA radiation safety principles
- Experience with Siemens MRI systems and working in a busy public health medical imaging department is highly desirable
