Our major sites include University Hospital Geelong in Geelong’s CBD, the McKellar Centre precinct in North Geelong, Barwon Health North in Norlane, and residential aged care facilities spanning the region. Comprehensive mental health, community health and dental services are delivered through various programs across the Barwon South West Region, including Torquay and Colac.

 

About the role

The Grade 2 Night Shift Radiographer/MIT works with one other Night Shift Radiographer sharing the responsibility for the provision and coordination of the overnight X-ray and CT medical imaging service. 

 

Barwon Health currently has an exciting opportunity to join the permanent Night Shift Radiographer team working three 10 hour night shifts per week 10pm till 8am Friday, Saturday, Sunday. 

 

 

Duties of the Grade 2 Night Shift Radiographer/MIT include but not limited to;

 

  • Undertake additional responsibilities to a Grade 1 Radiographer/MIT including being available for reasonable overtime, and working night shift as part of the 24/7 'ABC roster'. 
  • Independently operate all diagnostic imaging equipment including information communication systems.
  • Produce high quality medical images using valid request forms following the principles of ALARA. This includes utilising specialist knowledge/experience to perform complex X-ray and CT examinations in both the adult and paediatric population. Presentations include trauma, resus, stroke, emergency, and inpatient examinations. 
  • Correct identification of patients using 4 step model consisting of: (i) verification of patient information, (ii) matching information against request form, (iii) timeout, (iv) post procedure confirmation of an acceptable image including correct positioning and presentation (side markers, orientation).
  • Escalating overnight faults or issues with medical imaging equipment to the Grade 3 or 4 modality supervisor, Chief Radiographer, and logging faults with vendors where required out of normal business hours.
  • In coordination with one other night shift radiographer manage, triage, and perform X-ray and CT examinations during the medical imaging service's night shift hours sharing the responsibility for the provision of timely medical imaging examinations requested in the overnight setting.
  • Utilise specialist knowledge/experience during night shift hours to ensure urgent or unexpected findings are raised in a timely manner with the appropriate health practitioner to ensure immediate management of the patient/client. 
  • Liaise with referrers, radiologists and other hospital night shift staff to ensure a high-quality medical imaging service is provided during night shift hours. 
  • Provide high quality safe care to consumers and implement the Barwon Health values in daily duties.
