About the role
Mental Health, Drugs & Alcohol Services (MHDAS) at Barwon Health is a comprehensive, specialist public mental health service providing acute, subacute, community and recovery-focused care across the Barwon region.
As a Psychiatry Registrar, you will work within a well-supported supervision and education framework that develops advanced clinical capability in specialist psychiatric and general medical practice within a complex, high-acuity environment. Accredited and unaccredited registrars are encouraged to apply.
Registrars rotate through a range of settings including inpatient units, community teams and specialist services.
The program offers:
- Protected teaching time aligned with RANZCP requirements
- Formal education sessions and case-based learning
- Exposure to diverse diagnostic presentations and multidisciplinary care
- Opportunities to develop leadership capability through teaching and supervision of medical students and HMOs
- Participation in after-hours, on-call and recall rosters is required in accordance with unit needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments and examinations
- Develop differential diagnoses and evidence-based management plans
- Document accurate, timely clinical records and admission summaries
- Provide teaching and clinical supervision to medical students and HMOs
What We Are Looking For
- Medical registration with AHPRA (or eligibility)
- Enrolment or eligibility for RANZCP training
- Demonstrated competency in psychiatric assessment and risk formulation
- Strong communication skills and commitment to multidisciplinary care
