About the facility

Our major sites include University Hospital Geelong in Geelong’s CBD, the McKellar Centre precinct in North Geelong, Barwon Health North in Norlane, and residential aged care facilities spanning the region. Comprehensive mental health, community health and dental services are delivered through various programs across the Barwon South West Region, including Torquay and Colac.

 

Bellarine Centre 5 is a 34 bed combined Cardiology and Cardiothoracic unit which consists of 6 coronary care, 18 cardiology and 10 cardiothoracic beds. The cardiology service operates a 24-hour emergency STEMI service, along with the complete range of diagnostic, medical and interventional cardiology

 

About the role

An exciting opportunity to complete the Graduate Diploma of Nursing: Cardiac Care, in affiliation with La Trobe University. The successful applicants will have cardiac nursing experience, excellent communication skills and a motivation to continued professional development.

 

Successful applicants will be supported with our well-established structured program. Graduates will develop the advanced clinical skills and knowledge required to care for complex cardiac patients. Applicants will work autonomously whilst being part of a supportive team

 

The Program

  • 12 months: 64 hrs per fortnight, temporary part time 
  • In Collaboration with La Trobe University
  • Rotations to ICU, Cardiac theatre, Cardiac Catheter Laboratory 
  • Competencies and hurdles assessed onsite by Clinical Educator. Shift support offered through Clinical Support Nurses 

 

Key learnings include:

  • Advanced electrocardiography
  • Complex pharmacological management
  • Arrhythmia interventions including advanced pacing concepts
  • Post-operative cardiothoracic surgery

 

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse with minimum of 2 years acute nursing experience
  • Previous cardiac nursing experience is desirable
