About the role
Join our Main Theatre team as a Registered Nurse (Grade 2), working in a Scrub/Scout capacity to provide safe, high-quality and patient-centred care throughout the surgical journey. You’ll work collaboratively with surgeons, anaesthetic staff and the wider multidisciplinary team, using your clinical skills and evidence-based practice to support positive patient outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Provide safe, high-quality and patient-centred nursing care in the Scrub/Scout role.
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to support safe and effective surgical procedures.
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care using an evidence-based approach.
- Maintain effective communication with patients, colleagues and other health professionals to ensure continuity of care.
- Contribute to quality improvement, audits, safety initiatives and service development within the theatre environment.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation and comply with relevant clinical and safety standards.
What we’re looking for
- Registered Nurse with minimum of 12 months acute nursing experience
- Previous operating theatre experience
- Strong clinical judgment and ability to remain calm under pressure
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to continuous professional development and evidence-based practice
What the Program Offers
- 12 months: 60-66 hrs per fortnight, temporary part time commencing February 2027
- In affiliation with Deakin University
- Eligible nurses and midwives are entitled to examination leave and study leave under the Nurses and Midwives (Victorian Public Sector) Enterprise Agreement.
- Rotations through operating services, including main theatre and day surgery
- Education and clinical support provided by the dedicated Perioperative education team throughout the program
Continued employment in this postgraduate nursing position is contingent upon the successful completion of all local clinical requirements and academic requirements associated with the affiliated University
About the service
Operating Services at University Geelong Main theatre offers a round-the-clock service with ten operating theatres. Beyond elective surgeries, the department handles semi-urgent and emergency procedures. Specialities encompass Cardiothoracic, ENT, Gastroenterology, General Surgery, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Oral Faciomaxillary, Plastics, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Urology, Vascular and Robotic Surgery.
