About the role

Join Barwon Health as a Registered Nurse in BAX6, working within Medicine, Specialist Medicine and Emergency Medicine. You’ll provide high-quality, evidence-based, consumer-centred care while working collaboratively with patients, families and the broader multidisciplinary team. In this role, you’ll build therapeutic relationships, contribute to individualised care planning and support positive patient outcomes within a complex, high-acuity haematology and oncology inpatient environment

 

Key responsibilities

  • Provide safe, high-quality and evidence-based nursing care in accordance with professional standards and Barwon Health requirements.
  • Establish therapeutic relationships and work collaboratively with patients, families and the multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation and communicate effectively to support continuity of care.
  • Contribute to patient safety, quality improvement, audits and service development initiatives within the clinical environment.
  • Maintain professional competence through ongoing education, mandatory training and continuing professional development.

   

What we’re looking for   

  • Registered Nurse with minimum of 12 months acute nursing experience  
  • Previous cancer nursing experience desired but not essential
  • Strong clinical judgment and ability to remain calm under pressure  
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills  
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and evidence-based practice  

  

What the Program Offers   

  • 12 months: 64 hrs per fortnight, temporary part time commencing January 2027 
  • In affiliation with The University of Melbourne  
  • Under the Nurses and Midwives (Victorian Public Sector) Enterprise Agreement, eligible nurses and midwives are entitled to examination leave and study leave
  • Rotations through inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Education and clinical support provided by the dedicated Cancer services education team

Continued employment in this postgraduate nursing position is contingent upon the successful completion of all local clinical requirements and academic requirements associated with the affiliated University  

 

About the service   

The Andrew Love Cancer Centre (ALCC) at Barwon Health is one of Victoria’s leading regional cancer centres, delivering world-class care to patients across Geelong and the Barwon South West since 1992. With state-of-the-art facilities and a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, ALCC provides comprehensive services including a 28-bed inpatient unit, day therapy, radiotherapy, apheresis, and a clinical trials unit. Beyond treatment, our Supportive Care Centre and survivorship programs offer holistic support for patients and their families throughout the cancer journey.  

Baxter 6 is a purpose built, state of the art, 28 bed haematology and medical oncology ward. Our patients are cared for in predominantly single rooms with views of the bay, supporting patients from across the Barwon, Southwest region. Our core services provide acute care for haematology patients, including peripheral stem cell transplants, medical oncology, radiation oncology, palliative care patients and patients on Clinical Trials. We offer exciting education and training opportunities with our affiliation to Melbourne University and our Oncology Nurse educator.
