About the role

As the Patient Safety Coordinator you will be responsible for the co-ordination and facilitation of the review of serious adverse patient safety events across Barwon Health in collaboration with the Deputy Director SQI Patient Safety. The co-ordinator works with the Deputy Director of Patient Safety to support the Serious Adverse Patient Safety Event (SAPSE) process to meet the requirements of Statutory Duty of Candour (SDC).

 

Key responsibilities 

  • Coordinate and manage clinical incidents and patient safety events, including monitoring, documentation, escalation, and reporting through VHIMS/RiskMan to support safe, high-quality care at Barwon Health.
  • Support clinical governance and review processes, including Mortality and Morbidity reviews, Sentinel Event notifications, and evaluation of recommendations from incident investigations.
  • Contribute to education and training initiatives, incorporating learnings from incidents into staff education, alerts, and forums to promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with information management, occupational health and safety, and organisational policies, maintaining accurate records, promoting best practice, and supporting quality improvement activities.

 

What we’re looking for 

  • Tertiary degree in a relevant health discipline with at least 5 years’ experience in quality management and accreditation within a tertiary health service.
  • Proven ability to lead projects and drive change in large healthcare organisations, influencing senior staff and executive teams.
  • Strong knowledge of safety and quality performance indicators, monitoring, reporting requirements, and relevant health service policies and regulations.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including managing a team and fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
