About the role
Join Barwon Health’s Ophthalmology Surgery team in this temporary specialist role, providing high-quality, patient-centred surgical care to public and private patients at Geelong Hospital.
You will provide inpatient and outpatient ophthalmology services, contribute to after-hours care as required, and work collaboratively with medical, nursing and allied health teams to ensure safe, effective and efficient patient care.
The role also provides opportunities to contribute to clinical education, postgraduate teaching, clinical research, audit and quality improvement activities, supporting excellence in ophthalmology services across Barwon Health.
Key Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality inpatient and outpatient Ophthalmology surgical services (public and private), ensuring safe, effective, compassionate and patient-centred care, including informed consent and shared decision-making.

Provide consultative support across the organisation and participate in the Ophthalmology after-hours roster as required.

Maintain comprehensive clinical documentation and effective communication with nursing, medical and community providers to ensure coordinated, high-quality patient care.

Contribute to clinical governance through audit, outcome review, incident reporting and continuous quality improvement activities.

Support excellence in medical education and research, including supervision of students and trainees, participation in postgraduate teaching, and involvement in clinical research.

Comply with organisational policies relating to occupational health & safety, emergency procedures, and equal opportunity, fostering a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace
What we’re looking for
- Medical degree with current AHPRA registration, or eligibility for registration
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO)
- Demonstrated adaptability, flexibility and collaborative interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, colleagues and multidisciplinary teams
