Barwon Health provides pregnancy, birth, and postnatal care to more than 2,500 families annually across the Geelong and Barwon South West region. Our Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) offers women the continuity of care from a primary midwife and backup MGP team throughout their pregnancy, birth, and postnatal period, with homebirth options available for eligible women within 30 minutes of the hospital.

About the facility
Our major sites include University Hospital Geelong in Geelong’s CBD, the McKellar Centre precinct in North Geelong, Barwon Health North in Norlane, and residential aged care facilities spanning the region. Comprehensive mental health, community health and dental services are delivered through various programs across the Barwon South West Region, including Torquay and Colac.
About the role
Interested in joining our MGP team? This is your opportunity to deliver exceptional continuity midwifery care within a supportive, progressive model—including hospital-based care and the growing homebirth program.
What You’ll Do
- Provide comprehensive midwifery care within the MGP model: antenatal, labour, birth, and early postnatal care in hospital and community/home settings.
- Work collaboratively with your ‘buddy’ midwife and wider multidisciplinary team in Birth Suite, Pregnancy Care Clinics, Maternity Assessment Unit, Postnatal Ward, and Postnatal Care in the Home.
- Participate in homebirth care for women meeting clinical eligibility criteria, under the MGP homebirth program
- Support student midwives and new staff as a clinical mentor or preceptor.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, audits, and service redesign activities.
Key Selection Criteria
Essential:
- AHPRA registration as a Registered Midwife.
- Degree-level qualification (Bachelor of Midwifery or combined Nursing/Midwifery)
Desirable:
- Experience or interest in homebirth and community midwifery care.
- Experience in midwifery continuity models or group practice settings.
- Ability to practice waterbirth and water-immersion techniques.
- Experience with procedures such as ARM, FSE attachment, IV cannulation, speculum and cervidil insertion, perineal suturing
