About the role
Join a progressive, multidisciplinary Infant and Child Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (ICMHWS) within MHDAS at Barwon Health, one of Victoria’s largest regional health services.
ICMHWS provides high quality best practice assessment and treatment to women in the perinatal period, and infants and children aged 0-11 years experiencing emotional and behavioural difficulties. This job is responsible for the provision of high-level direct care to children of the service, their families, and supervision and education of students.
Alternative roles may include:
- Mental health assessments of children aged 0-11 yrs and the provision of treatment to these children and their families.
- Crisis mental health assessments of children aged 0-11 years presenting with significant emotional or behavioural disturbance.
- Access/Intake
- Perinatal Mental Health
- Community development /liaison
- School based program
- Autism assessment team
Key Responsibilities
- Lead specialist clinical assessment and treatment of infants, children (0–11), and women in the perinatal period, delivering family-inclusive, developmentally appropriate, evidence-based care.
- Undertake complex risk assessment and clinical decision-making, ensuring safety of children while coordinating care from intake through to discharge.
- Drive integrated, multidisciplinary care and stakeholder engagement, including consultation, education, and collaboration with families, health services, schools, and community providers.
What We Are Looking For
- Advanced clinical expertise in infant and child mental health and perinatal psychiatry, with strong capability in assessment, treatment, and therapeutic interventions.
- Highly developed clinical judgement and risk management skills, particularly in complex and high-pressure environments involving vulnerable children and families.
- Collaborative, emotionally intelligent communicator with proven ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and build strong relationships across services.
