About Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Services (MHDAS)  

MHDAS provides integrated and recovery oriented mental health, drugs and alcohol assessment, treatment and community support to people of all ages within the Barwon region experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, mental health and drug & alcohol issues, and their families. 

Our service is internationally recognised for its innovative clinical programs and integrated models of practice that are client centred, accessible and family inclusive. We are fortunate to enjoy terrific internal relationships and have developed excellent partnerships with the local community that provide for seamless integrated care for our clients. 

MHDAS is entering a new phase of co-design of our service system with people who access our services and our wider community. This will build on our nationally recognized unique cultural approach to the challenges of recovery-oriented service delivery to redesign our service system. 

 

 

About the facility 

Our major sites include University Hospital Geelong in Geelong’s CBD, the McKellar Centre precinct in North Geelong, Barwon Health North in Norlane, and residential aged care facilities spanning the region. Comprehensive mental health, community health and dental services are delivered through various programs across the Barwon South West Region, including Torquay and Colac.

 

About Eating Disorder Service

The Barwon Health Eating Disorder Service is a specialist multidisciplinary team providing assessment and treatment to young people (0-25 years) and their families presenting with an eating disorder, or at risk of an eating disorder. The team is located within the broader Mental Health, Drugs and Alcohol program.

The service is a leader in the delivery of evidence-based treatments for eating disorders and collaborative models of care including Family Based Treatment (FBT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy- Enhanced (CBT-E), Specialised Supportive Clinical Management (SSCM), Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), Multi-family Therapy (MFT), and Motivational Interviewing. There is a strong focus on secondary consultation to the broader service, public and private sectors.

 

About you

  • Experience in a child and adolescent mental health setting
  • High level clinical skills related to the assessment and management of children and young people experiencing eating disorders
  • Specialist training in assessment and evidence-based treatments for eating disorders
  • Sound conceptual knowledge of the principles of service integration and shared care
  • Experience working with individuals with eating disorders and their families
  • Current Victorian driver’s licence

 

About the role

As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will participate in the assessment and delivery of evidence-based treatment to individuals and their families presenting with an eating disorder. Additionally, you will also provide primary and secondary consultation to the broader service in relation to eating disturbance or disorder. Duties of your role include, but are not limited to:

  • Undertaking regular mental state examination and risk assessment
  • Maintaining effective and timely communication with other health providers involved in the young person’s care
  • Documenting and clinically reviewing client care within usual team processes and procedures in the client medical file
