About the role
The Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System challenged us to go beyond incremental improvement and build a system that helps all Victorians live their best lives. The Greater Geelong and Borough of Queenscliffe (GGQ) Mental Health and Wellbeing Local is a key step towards that goal. It is delivered by a consortium of equal partners: Barwon Health, Wathaurong Aboriginal Cooperative, Wellways Australia and ermha365. The service is built on positivity, hope and inclusion. Whether people reach us online, by phone or in person, every first contact starts with a simple question: “Welcome, how can we help?”
As a Mental Health Clinician, employed by Barwon Health, you’ll provide assessment, brief intervention therapies and consultation to consumers and their families. You’ll also act as a key link between the Local and tertiary mental health services. You’ll work alongside peer workers, support workers and consortium partners to deliver connected, person-centred care, and you’ll help shape the service as it grows. We welcome applications from Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers and Registered Psychiatric Nurses (Grade 3). The role works Monday to Friday, 8.30am–5pm, supported by a Senior Clinician on shift. There may be opportunities for evening and weekend shifts in the future.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical therapies, brief interventions and primary and secondary consultation to consumers, families and carers, both within the Local and with external services
- Complete Initial Engagement and Screening Assessments (IESA) and comprehensive assessments, and support referrals to and from tertiary mental health services
- Collaborate across the consortium partnership and contribute to data reporting, service development, quality improvement and evaluation
What We Are Looking For
You’re a skilled mental health clinician with a collaborative, recovery-oriented approach. You’ll enjoy working in a new and evolving service. You bring strong assessment skills, confidence in working with people with co-occurring mental health and substance use concerns, and a commitment to person-centred care.
- Demonstrated experience in mental health assessment and intervention in a community setting
- Experience working with a range of disciplines, including lived experience and AOD workers
Please note Barwon Health will only contact you via our official email and never use unconventional means, such as text messaging or other services.
- Excellent working conditions and a strong sense of job satisfaction
- A vibrant staff wellbeing program and access to our 24/7 Employee Assistance Program
- Extensive professional development opportunities
- Attractive salary packaging benefits
- Living expenses capped at $9,010
- Meals and entertainment capped at $2,650
