About the facility
Our major sites include University Hospital Geelong in Geelong’s CBD, the McKellar Centre precinct in North Geelong, Barwon Health North in Norlane, and residential aged care facilities spanning the region. Comprehensive mental health, community health and dental services are delivered through various programs across the Barwon South West Region, including Torquay and Colac.
The Barwon Health Speech Pathology service provides Acute Care (University Hospital Geelong), Rehabilitation and Subacute Care (McKellar Centre) and Community, Mental Health and Aged Care services in the Barwon South West Region. There are 35 Speech Pathologists employed within Barwon Health. Speech Pathology staff are supported in their professional practice by attendance at professional development opportunities, regular review of evidence based practice, professional supervision and access to training and competency packages.Speech Pathologists employed within Barwon Health work in wide range of clinical areas and contexts to provide assessment, management and support to clients with swallowing and communication disorders - from infants, through the entire aged spectrum, to aged and palliative care. Speech Pathology staff are supported in their professional practice by attendance at professional development opportunities, regular review of evidence based practice, professional supervision and access to training and competency packages
About the role
As the successful applicant you will lead and develop a contemporary, safe and effective Speech Pathology service at Barwon Health. You will be responsible for the clinical governance of all Speech Pathologists and Music Therapists at Barwon Health as well as the day to day operational oversight of those which report through to your role.
As the Manager of the Speech Pathology team your primary objectives will be to:
- To lead and develop a contemporary, safe and effective Speech Pathology service at Barwon Health.
- You are responsible for the operational governance of the Speech Pathologists at the bed based services at UHG and MCK Inpatient Rehabilitation Centre and Speciality Outpatient Clinics
- You will be responsible for the professional governance of all Speech Pathologists and Music Therapists at Barwon Health
- As an Allied Health leader you will also be expected to lead beyond Speech Pathology, including representation of Allied Health on relevant committees or forums and/ or taking portfolio responsibility for an area of work/service delivery
