About the facility
Our major sites include University Hospital Geelong in Geelong’s CBD, the McKellar Centre precinct in North Geelong, Barwon Health North in Norlane, and residential aged care facilities spanning the region. Comprehensive mental health, community health and dental services are delivered through various programs across the Barwon South West Region, including Torquay and Colac.
The Pharmacy Department is staffed by 120 EFT staff across the acute site (University Hospital Geelong), the rehabilitation and aged care site (McKellar Centre) and the private hospital (St John of God). The staffing consists of 82 EFT pharmacists, 6 pre-registration pharmacists and support staff. The Department provides clinical pharmacy services, aseptic and oncology preparation, HITH and outpatient services. A high degree of specialisation exists in clinical pharmacy roles, clinical trials, medication safety, medicines information, antimicrobial stewardship and radiopharmacy. Service expansion has included @home pharmacy services.
The Pharmacy Department is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy education and in the medical course at Deakin University. Pharmacy practice research is a focus with local and collaborative projects with universities, particularly Monash University and other healthcare facilities. Staff are supported for continuing education and postgraduate studies. The AdPha residency program is offered.
The Pharmacy is innovative in its approach to practice with electronic discharge prescribing and a robotic dispensing and inventory system and pharmacy @home program expanding. Quality use of medicines and medication safety activities are led by pharmacy across campuses. Pharmacy technicians support clinical pharmacists and undertake sterile and oncology preparation. The Beth Allerton Family Oncology Pharmacy provides a dedicated facility for chemotherapy preparation, clinical trials, outpatient dispensing and patient counselling within the Cancer Centre
About the role
The Lead Pharmacist - Workforce Development and Research leads the on-going development and co-ordination of the educational strategy and research initiatives for the Barwon Health pharmacy service. The role ensures the advancement of hospital pharmacy practice through evidence-based research, innovation, implementation and evaluation of education and research programs for pharmacists, intern pharmacists, technicians, and students. The role will ensure that the development of all pharmacy staff is aligned to organisational and professional objectives.

About you
You are an enthusiastic hospital pharmacist with significant experience in education, training and research and are recognised as subject matter expertise within profession. You demonstrate strong leadership skills, including leading teams, with a demonstrated understanding of contemporary practice in hospital pharmacy service.
