About the role
Barwon Health is seeking motivated Instrument Technicians for permanent or temporary roles within the Central Sterilising Unit (CSU) and Satellite Reprocessing Unit (SRU). Join a dynamic, collaborative team dedicated to delivering the highest quality patient care.
In this role, you will be responsible for the cleaning, disinfection, packaging, and sterilising of reusable medical and surgical equipment, ensuring compliance with Barwon Health policies and procedures as well as Australian Standard AS 5369:2023. You will work with a team of like-minded professionals, focusing on safe, efficient processes to achieve the best outcomes for patients and customers.
Key responsibilities
- Reprocess reusable medical and surgical equipment including cleaning, disinfection, packaging and sterilisation in accordance with Barwon Health policies and Australian Standard AS 5369:2023.
- Ensure safe handling, storage and distribution of sterile and contaminated items while maintaining strict infection prevention and control standards.
- Monitor, document and maintain accurate records of all reprocessing activities to meet organisational, legal and quality standards.
- Identify and report equipment faults or process issues to ensure safe and efficient operations within the CSU/SRU units.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, contributing to a positive team culture and providing professional customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
- Support workplace safety, quality improvement and professional development, including compliance with WHS requirements, policies, and mandatory training.
What we’re looking for
- Certificate IV in Sterilisation Services (Grade 4) or Certificate III in Sterilisation Services (Grade 3).
- Minimum 3 years’ full-time equivalent experience as an Instrument Technician (Grade 4) or 1 year post-qualification experience (Grade 3).
- Demonstrated experience in the disinfection and sterilisation of medical equipment and instruments.
- Ability to work flexible rostered shifts and additional hours to meet departmental needs.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively within a team.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow strict procedures and quality standards.
- Ability to work across a variety of shifts and weekends
