About the facility

Our major sites include University Hospital Geelong in Geelong’s CBD, the McKellar Centre precinct in North Geelong, Barwon Health North in Norlane, and residential aged care facilities spanning the region. Comprehensive mental health, community health and dental services are delivered through various programs across the Barwon South West Region, including Torquay and Colac.

 

 

About the Department of Surgery

Our Surgery Department are enthusiastic, engaged and committed to working cohesively together to provide high quality, patient centred care.  They promote positive, respectful relationships and strong working partnerships across the multidisciplinary team and the Barwon South West region.

Barwon Health was the first regional hospital in Australia to offer a robotic service situated in the public hospital. Our junior surgical cohort of doctors have the opportunity to be trained in robotic assisting.

 

About the Role – Surgical Stream Resident

The Surgical Stream for HMO3 Surgical Resident rotates through a vast range of units where you will get a broad perspective of all of the services that University Hospital Geelong offer.  You will be an integral member of the team working alongside accredited and unaccredited registrars and consultant staff. Barwon Health has a range of surgical specialties through which our surgical stream doctors rotate through including: Orthopaedics, General surgery, Emergency, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Surgical Specialties, Plastics, Vascular, Urology, surgical nights, ENT/FMOS/Ophthalmology and ICU. There are also many opportunities for research, teaching and a dedicated education program for junior surgical doctors. Mentoring from the PRESET supervisor/s to help with surgical applications to available to all our HMO3 surgical stream doctors.

 

If you have the qualifications and aptitude along with excellent interpersonal skills and the commitment to improving patient care, this may be the role for you.

The successful applicants will also assist in general reporting and participate in the roster for after-hours, on-call and recall by the unit.
