About the role 

Barwon Health runs a substantial Advanced Training Program for General and Acute Care Medicine Trainees. With links to the Western Victorian Regional Advanced Training Hub, recruitment is coordinated within the hub together with Grampians Health Ballarat and Southwest Health based in Warrnambool, we aim to be able to provide trainees with a training experience that will meet their personal preferences and RACP training requirements. At Barwon Health, trainees have access to 6-month core rotations in:

• Core General Medicine
  • • Med 1, Med 3
    • Med 6 (Acute)
• Core General Medicine Related
  • • Senior Medical Registrar (Acute)
    • SJOG Geelong
    • Connected Care/Early Access
• Core subspecialty

• • • Intensive Care Unit (Acute)
    • Cardiology (Acute)
    • Respiratory
    • Gastroenterology

Core General Medicine and General Medicine related rotations include a range of subspecialty clinic opportunities including Dermatology and Heart Failure clinics. Other specialty clinics including gastroenterology, renal, oncology, and endocrinology clinics may be available by negotiation.

Trainees have opportunities to develop leadership skills, participate in clinical governance and quality assurance activities, work closely with consultants taking on clinical lead roles with supervision. We also support trainees in their research and teaching interests having an affiliation with Deakin University, as well as providing teaching embedded within rotation units, with links to state-wide General Medicine Advanced Trainee education programs.

What we’re looking for 

• Registered medical practitioner in Victoria (general or specialist registration linked to a recognised college training program), with successful completion of RACP written and clinical examinations (or equivalent).
• Minimum 4 years’ postgraduate experience in Internal Medicine, Critical Care and/or Emergency Medicine, with strong clinical knowledge, practical skills and professional ethical standards.
• Demonstrated commitment to patient-centred care, safe clinical practice, continuous quality improvement, and adherence to professional medical codes of conduct.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively within and lead multidisciplinary teams, contribute to medical education and supervision of junior staff, and participate in after-hours, on-call and recall rosters as required.
