About the role

The role of the Families where a Parent has a Mental Illness (FaPMI) Co-ordinator, is to co-ordinate activity within the Barwon catchment which enhances the capacity of services to assist FaPMI families through:

  • workforce development,
  • facilitating the uptake and implementation of evidence-based practice,
  • facilitating a range of direct service programs, including peer support programs.

The FaPMI strategy targets key ways to ensure that awareness is raised about the issues for families where a parent has a mental illness, but also that this awareness then creates the opportunity to create sustainable changes for the workforce and impacted families. FaPMI does this by:

  • Facilitating the development of changes in policy within clinical mental health services to reflect the needs of FaPMI families;
  • Developing  broad systemic and practice change for adult mental health workers
  • Supporting cross-sector collaborative practice and influencing policy direction across and within a range of sectors;
  • Facilitating the provision of direct service provision of child and family focused programs which potentially provide up to 40% reduction in child risks with preventive family interventions;
  • Improving referral pathways within and across services

Please note Barwon Health will only contact you via our official email and never use unconventional means, such as text messaging or other services.
