About the role
As part of a small but high-performing team, the External Affairs and Communications Advisor (Advisor) will support the design and implementation of external communication strategies to drive positive stakeholder engagement and enhance the Barwon Health’s brand and reputation.
The Advisor will provide strategic and tactical communications advice, while supporting the delivery of key communications projects including publications, events, media and issues management, community information and the creation of content for all Barwon Health digital channels.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality communications and customer service, managing internal and external enquiries, media requests, and stakeholder engagement
- Develop and implement strategic communication plans, campaigns, and content across digital, print, and social media channels
- Lead social media and digital platforms, including content creation, scheduling, analytics, and optimisation
- Produce and manage a wide range of communications materials (e.g. newsletters, speeches, websites, video, and publications) in line with brand guidelines
- Support and coordinate events, launches, and community initiatives, including government visits and awareness campaigns
- Provide operational and administrative support, including reporting, content workflows, confidential information management, and participation in on-call and emergency communications
What we’re looking for
- Relevant tertiary qualification in communications, public relations, or journalism, with 3+ years’ experience in a similar role
- Strong content creation skills across digital platforms, including social media and websites, with excellent writing and attention to detail
- Proven ability to manage social media platforms and tools (e.g. Sprout Social), with knowledge of trends, audience engagement, and analytics
- Graphic design, photography, and editing skills, with experience using Adobe Creative Suite and Canva, and working within brand guidelines
- Highly organised with strong time management skills, able to meet deadlines, work collaboratively in a team, and operate autonomously while ensuring policy compliance
