About the role
An exciting opportunity is available for Advanced Trainees to join the Diabetes & Endocrinology Department at Barwon Health. The department supports two accredited registrar positions (1 RCY and 1 Core) in the PMCV Vic/Tas match process. The Endocrine Unit includes six inpatient beds for the management of diabetes and endocrine emergencies, including a Diabetic Foot Unit, and provides a busy inpatient consultative service across acute and subacute facilities.
Trainees participate in onsite ambulatory services, outreach clinics, and specialised clinics at other health services, while also attending regular unit education meetings. The department has a strong focus on clinical excellence, education and research, with particular emphasis on preparing senior trainees for consultant or academic careers.
Clinical exposure and development
- Adult diabetes management including pre‑conception planning and diabetes in pregnancy
- Thyroid, adrenal and other endocrine disorders
- Metabolic bone disease
- Participation in multidisciplinary thyroid cancer meetings, radiology meetings and journal clubs
Research opportunities
Research opportunities are supported through access to the Geelong Osteoporosis Study, a 30‑year population‑based cohort study, and the Geelong Bone Density Service databases.
Key responsibilities
- Provide inpatient and ambulatory care to patients with diabetes and endocrine conditions
- Support early access and peri‑operative medical services for patients with diabetes and general medical conditions
- Participate in outreach, ambulatory and specialised endocrine clinics
- Actively engage in education programs, multidisciplinary meetings and research activities
What we're looking for
- Completion of FRACP Part 1 examination
- Current AHPRA registration
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Commitment to excellence in patient care, education and research
