  • Excellent multiple temporary part-time positions available for 6 months (64 hours per fortnight) commencing the 28th of July 2026

 

About the role

An exciting opportunity to complete a Discovery Program in ICU nursing. The successful applicants will have acute nursing experience, excellent communication skills and a motivation to continued professional development. 

Successful applicants will be supported with our well-established structured program. 

 

About the program

The ICU Discovery Program is offering Division One Registered Nurses who are interested in working in ICU an opportunity to participate in our well-established entry level 6-month orientation program. The Discovery Program will assist nurses in learning new advanced clinical skills, application of critical thinking & advanced clinical knowledge to enable them to safely care for the ICU/HDU patient. The nurse who has successfully completed the ICU Discovery Program is encouraged to apply for the Graduate Certificate or higher in Intensive Care Nursing.

 

The Discovery Program is designed to provide participants with the opportunity to:

  • Experience and practice intensive care nursing in a supportive environment
  • Provide the foundation knowledge and skills required for working in ICU
  • Gain competency in essential intensive care clinical skills and develop skills in assessment and management of adult and paediatric patients.
  • Supernumerary orientation days
  • 5 educational study days

 

What we’re looking for

  • Completion of a graduate Year Program
  • Recent acute medical or surgical experience.

 

Key responsibilities

 

  • Deliver advanced, patient-centred care that meets best practice standards to critically ill and ventilated patients
  • Perform comprehensive assessments and continuous haemodynamic monitoring
  • Recognise and respond rapidly to clinical deterioration and emergency situations
  • Safely administer complex medications and therapies
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to plan and evaluate care
  • Provide clear communication and support to patients and families and within a multi-disciplinary team to ensure patients receive quality and ongoing care
  • Contribute to quality improvement, education and evidence-based practice
