About the facility  

Social Workers at Barwon Health work across a diverse range of the Health areas including Acute, sub-acute and community based program areas at a number of campuses of Barwon Health.  They require clinical knowledge and skills relevant to working as a clinician in a health setting.  The social work clinician will have an awareness and understanding of the health service environment. 

 

About the role 

This position is required to have well established clinical knowledge and skills relevant to working as an advanced Social Work clinician. Support the development of less experienced staff and undergraduate students through teaching, supervision, and guidance, while managing designated portfolios and quality improvement projects aligned with Social Work’s Business/strategic plan.  Perform tasks as delegated by the Social Work Manager.  On occasion act up in senior roles such as Grade 4 and Manager of Social Work.

This role specifically is to:

  • Provide a high quality, evidence based, innovative and person-centred clinical education experience to Social Work students on placement by developing/implementing, co-coordinating and maintaining the Social Work student clinical placement program at Barwon Health.
  • Provide leadership, education/support and consultancy to Barwon Health Social Work staff regards the required processes/parameters of student placement.  
  • Provide consultation on social work student placement issues within the organisation to ensure the promotion of Social Work professional values and high standards of Social Work service provision.
  • Provide both Social Work and inter-professional teaching, supervision, support for students on clinical placement.

Parameters of this position include the following: a consultative/supportive role to the social work placement supervisors, liaison between the ‘provider’ universities and the placement sites across Barwon Health as to coordination of placements and related resource requirements, assistance in the selection of students for placement, overall coordination of the learning/education plan and mid-way and final reports via close liaison with the social work supervisors and the provision of regular communication to social work manager and the senior clinicians on program developments and any issues needing their advice/decision making.

 All Allied Health professionals employed by Barwon Health are responsible for ensuring they maintain their credentialing requirements (as per their professional association) to practice as a health practitioner during their period of employment/engagement with Barwon Health.
