About the role
Barwon Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Services (MHDAS) is one of Victoria’s most innovative and integrated regional services, providing end-to-end care across the lifespan. We provide integrated, recovery-oriented mental health and AOD services to the Barwon region.
We are seeking Consultant Psychiatrists to join our service across a range of clinical areas. Unlike traditional roles, we offer flexible alignment to your subspecialty interests, including (subject to availability):
- Adult Community Mental Health
- Acute Inpatient Services
- Aged Psychiatry
- Youth and Early Intervention
- Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry
- Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) services
This approach enables you to practice at the top of your scope, while contributing to a system undergoing major co-designed reform under the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 (Vic).
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, evidence-based psychiatric assessment, treatment and care planning
- Deliver clinical leadership within multidisciplinary teams, supporting safe and effective care
- Contribute to service development, innovation and system redesign initiatives
- Act as a delegate of the Authorised Psychiatrist in line with the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 (Vic)
- Support and supervise junior medical staff and trainees (where accredited)
- Participate in clinical governance, quality improvement and risk management activities
- Build strong partnerships with consumers, carers and community services
What We Are Looking For
- Fellowship-qualified (FRANZCP) or equivalent
- Registered (or eligible) with AHPRA for specialist or general registration
- Committed to recovery-oriented, consumer-centred care
- Able to contribute to clinical leadership and team capability
- Motivated to be part of a service undergoing significant reform and innovation
