About the role

Barwon Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Services (MHDAS) is one of Victoria’s most innovative and integrated regional services, providing end-to-end care across the lifespan. We provide integrated, recovery-oriented mental health and AOD services to the Barwon region.

We are seeking Consultant Psychiatrists to join our service across a range of clinical areas. Unlike traditional roles, we offer flexible alignment to your subspecialty interests, including (subject to availability):

  • Adult Community Mental Health
  • Acute Inpatient Services
  • Aged Psychiatry
  • Youth and Early Intervention
  • Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry
  • Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) services

This approach enables you to practice at the top of your scope, while contributing to a system undergoing major co-designed reform under the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 (Vic).

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, evidence-based psychiatric assessment, treatment and care planning
  • Deliver clinical leadership within multidisciplinary teams, supporting safe and effective care
  • Contribute to service development, innovation and system redesign initiatives
  • Act as a delegate of the Authorised Psychiatrist in line with the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 (Vic)
  • Support and supervise junior medical staff and trainees (where accredited)
  • Participate in clinical governance, quality improvement and risk management activities
  • Build strong partnerships with consumers, carers and community services

 

What We Are Looking For

  • Fellowship-qualified (FRANZCP) or equivalent
  • Registered (or eligible) with AHPRA for specialist or general registration
  • Committed to recovery-oriented, consumer-centred care
  • Able to contribute to clinical leadership and team capability
  • Motivated to be part of a service undergoing significant reform and innovation
