About the role
The Community Birth Liaison Midwife supports safe, respectful, and collaborative relationships between health services in the Geelong and Barwon South West region and independent maternity care providers, including Privately Practising Midwives (PPMs) and doulas. This position is 16 hours a fortnight and will focus on developing a shared understanding of roles, processes and communication pathways. With a focus on safety, informed decision-making, and autonomy for consumers. The position is for five months with an expectation of a briefing paper to be presented to the executive team.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain respectful, collaborative partnerships between Barwon Health maternity services and independent maternity care providers, including Privately Practising Midwives and doulas
- Strengthen communication and support safe, timely hospital transfer pathways for families choosing non-hospital birth options
- Provide culturally safe, trauma-informed and non-judgemental support to families, promoting informed decision-making and continuity of care
- Act as a key point of contact to facilitate access to antenatal care, counselling, information and back-up medical support when required
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and ensure practice aligns with National Safety and Quality Standards and Barwon Health values
- Communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, demonstrating professionalism, integrity and a commitment to positive outcomes
What we’re looking for
- Bachelor degree or Master qualification
- Registered Midwife with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
- Advanced organisational skills
- Ability to think critically and confidence in decision making
- Understanding of the contemporary challenges in Maternity Care in Australia
