About the role
The Clinical Support Midwife (CSM) will support clinical learning in the midwifery units in a practical and applied way to ensure midwifery care and practice are maintained at the highest level. The position is clinically based, and CSM will be included as a member of the Centre for Education and Training team and will anticipate and respond to the clinical practice needs of newly registered midwives and midwives working within the clinical area. The role also supports all clinicians working within the clinical area, including conducting competency-based skills, bedside coaching, and mentorship for safe patient outcomes.
The role works in direct collaboration with the Clinical Nurse/Midwifery Educators, NUM/MUM and the Education and Training Leadership team.
About the Centre for Education and Training
The Centre for Education and Training leads an integrated approach to clinical education and training, helping Barwon Health to achieve its education goals by delivering, supporting and promoting coordinated, quality education and training across health care roles in Barwon Health and the Barwon South Western region. We comprise of an inter-professional team of clinical educators and support staff across allied health, nursing, midwifery, and medical disciplines, working together to develop clinicians who model excellent practice, challenge poor practice, and inspire others.
Key responsibilities
- Support nurses and midwives at the point of care, build clinical skills and confidence, and facilitate clinical assessments and evidence-based practice.
- Plan, deliver and evaluate education, training and professional development activities for nursing and midwifery staff.
- Promote safe, high-quality clinical practice in line with Barwon Health policies, clinical guidelines and National Safety and Quality Health Standards.
- Maintain professional standards, accurate documentation, information security, OHS requirements and ongoing registration and CPD obligations.
What we’re looking for
- Current AHPRA registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board, with a relevant postgraduate nursing specialty qualification.
- Demonstrated clinical excellence, recent clinical experience and strong consolidation within a clinical setting.
- Knowledge of adult learning and competency-based assessment, with the ability to lead change and work independently.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organisational and computer skills, with a strong collaborative approach.
