About the role

Barwon Health is seeking suitably qualified medical practitioners with a high level of skills and interest in clinical research for the position of Radiation Oncology Clinical Research Fellow at the Andrew Love Cancer Centre. We are seeking interested applicants for a 6-month term commencing in February 2026, with a potential to extend.  Andrew Love Cancer Centre is part of University Hospital of Geelong, a major tertiary hospital in Geelong, Victoria. With a well-established clinical trials unit and established links with Deakin University, you will participate in and support clinical and translational research including actively leading clinical trial initiatives. Demonstrating a high level of competence to provide safe, high quality, patient focused care, you will contribute towards developing and upholding a culture of clinical excellence that is in alignment with the purpose and values of Barwon Health. You will participate in clinical service and research development with a focus on access, quality and equity. As a member of a dynamic team of staff specialists and advanced trainees, you will have opportunities to develop site-specific expertise and research skills, contribute to adopting new techniques and technologies in provision of contemporary patient care, and shape the future leaders in radiation oncology through education, training and mentorship.

 

Barwon Health’s Cancer Services is a comprehensive, integrated service providing world class cancer care for adults in Geelong and South West Victoria.  The Andrew Love Cancer Centre (ALCC) has provided expert care to those affected by cancer in a supportive and caring environment since 1992. Based in Geelong, we have state of the art facilities, equipment and highly skilled health professionals who provide personalised and patient centred care.  We offer comprehensive care through site-specialist and multidisciplinary services. Chemotherapy, haematology and radiotherapy services are provided at the Andrew Love Cancer Centre.  The radiotherapy service at Barwon Health is one of four public radiotherapy service providers in Victoria. The service uses Varian planning software and has three Truebeam linacs with a dedicated planning CT and superficial radiotherapy unit. As a public radiotherapy provider, the service works collaboratively with the other public radiotherapy centres to deliver personalised treatment for patients of Geelong and the Southwest region.

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Provide specialist consultant-level inpatient and outpatient care for patients with oncologic disorders, in accordance with relevant professional standards and organisational policies.

  • Participate in and support clinical research activities, including clinical trials and investigator-led research, with involvement in patient recruitment, follow-up, and external research collaborations.

  • Contribute to clinical governance through the development, review, and implementation of clinical guidelines, protocols, quality improvement, and risk management activities.

  • Provide effective clinical handover, participate in service cover arrangements, and demonstrate flexibility in rostering to meet changing service needs.

  • Demonstrate leadership through respectful communication, teamwork, and maintenance of professional relationships across multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.

  • Provide clinical supervision, teaching, and educational leadership for registrars, junior medical staff, nursing staff, medical students, and other healthcare professionals.

  • Meet professional, organisational, and statutory requirements, including compliance with relevant standards, incident reporting, mandatory training, and adherence to Barwon Health policies and values

 

What we’re looking for 

  • Medical degree with eligibility for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (Victoria).

  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR).

  • Demonstrated experience in radiation oncology, including expertise in stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT).

  • Proven clinical, research, and governance capability, including participation in original research studies and clinical trials.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and time-management skills
