About the facility  

Our major sites include University Hospital Geelong in Geelong’s CBD, the McKellar Centre precinct in North Geelong, Barwon Health North in Norlane, and residential aged care facilities spanning the region. Comprehensive mental health, community health and dental services are delivered through various programs across the Barwon South West Region, including Torquay and Colac.  

  

About the role 

As a Clinical Nurse Consultant (Perioperative Medicine) you will:

  • Provide high quality professional, patient centred care for patients managed by the Perioperative Medicine Service.
  • Coordinate anaesthetic clinic appointments for complex/ high-risk patients.
  • Work closely with Perioperative Consultants to provide cohesive, coordinated care for patients.
  • Triage, coordinate and prioritise the care of patients who are not yet under the care of surgical waitlist, including the follow up of investigations and specialist management plans.
  • Assist in clinics with patient assessment including vital signs, anthropometric measurements, screening for frailty, malnutrition and cognition.
  • Coordinate appointments for cardiopulmonary exercise tests (CPET).
  • Assist the perioperative clinician in the performance of cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET).
  • Liaise with the Elective Surgery Access Unit regarding perioperative management of patients.
  • Assist with general clinic duties including infection control measures, restocking and maintenance of equipment.
  • Support perioperative teams with education, mentoring, and clinical governance.
  • Engage in quality improvement, audit, and program development initiatives.

As an Enhanced recovery after Surgery (ERAS) Coordinator you will:

  • Support elective Colorectal, Liver and short stay Arthroplasty patients through their perioperative journey.
  • Conduct Pre-admission telehealth clinics to assist patients prepare for surgery.
  • Perform ward rounding, discharge facilitation.
  • Complete post discharge telehealth reviews for colorectal and orthopaedic patients up until 30 days post discharge.
  • Manage an ongoing quality improvement cycle across general and orthopaedic portfolios. This includes a ward facing presence, patient auditing, data analysis and reporting results to stakeholders in specialty and group settings.
