About the role
The Grade 3 Cardiac Sonographer possesses high levels of specialist knowledge within Echocardiography as part of Cardiology ambulatory services across Barwon Health.

About our ergonomic, flexible and efficient workflow for sustainability of workforce: Non-negotiable since 2020
- Ergonomic Equipment - Echo machines, beds, chairs, stand/sit desks
- Multiskilling aligned with departmental needs to help reduce workplace injuries
- Echo Supervisor available to assist and troubleshoot across all echo rooms
- Experienced senior support team
- Hourly Echos – maximum of 7 per day – all IP and OP rooms
- Workload in IP rooms – Limited to a maximum of 2 morning or afternoon session per week
- Morning session - 1 OP + 3 IP
- Afternoon session - 3 IP
- 2 Sonographers rotating scans for SE lists
- Limiting mobile scans to critical areas - ICU, CCU,EMD
- Buddy system for ICU and Bariatric patients
- No weekend or on call Service
- Weekly, protected and paid Echo Education Meeting
Key responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality specialist cardiac diagnostic services in accordance with clinical guidelines, credentialing requirements, best practice standards and relevant legislation.
- Independently perform and complete a range of diagnostic cardiology examinations, including accurate patient identification, equipment operation, documentation and presentation of results for reporting.
- Provide leadership, supervision, mentoring and education to Cardiac Technologists/Sonographers, students and other clinical staff, while contributing to quality improvement and research/teaching activities.
- Promote safe, respectful and patient-centred care, ensuring compliance with privacy, health records, information security, incident reporting, equipment and organisational requirements.
What we’re looking for
Cardiac Sonographer
- Successfully completed a Degree or Postgraduate qualification in Sonography recognised by the Australian Sonographer Accreditation Registry (ASAR) and eligible for admission to the Register of Accredited Medical Sonographers; or
- Has been admitted to the Register of Accredited Medical Sonographers by the Australian Sonographer Accreditation Registry (ASAR), without having completed a Degree or Postgraduate qualification in Sonography recognised by ASAR.
