Join the McKellar Mental Health and Wellbeing Unit as an Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) and play a key role in supporting the delivery of high-quality, recovery-focused care within an acute mental health environment. You’ll provide clinical leadership, coordinate shifts and support the nursing team to deliver safe and effective care to consumers
Key responsibilities
- Provide clinical leadership and coordinate the day-to-day operation of the unit
- Provide assessment, treatment and ongoing care to consumers experiencing serious mental illness
- Support and supervise nursing staff, including during shift coordination and night duty rotations
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, consumers, families, carers and external services
- Contribute to clinical education, quality improvement, risk management and best-practice mental health care
What we’re looking for
- Registered Nurse Division 1 with current AHPRA registration
- Postgraduate qualification in psychiatric/mental health nursing or specialist undergraduate psychiatric nursing qualification
- Minimum 2 years’ full-time experience in adult psychiatry as a psychiatric nurse
- Experience working in an acute psychiatric setting and strong clinical skills in managing people with major mental illness
- Sound knowledge of the Victorian Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 and contemporary recovery-oriented mental health practice
- Excellent communication, leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environmen
About Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Services (MHDAS)
MHDAS provides integrated and recovery oriented mental health, drugs and alcohol assessment, treatment and community support to people of all ages within the Barwon region experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, mental health and drug & alcohol issues, and their families.
Our service is internationally recognised for its innovative clinical programs and integrated models of practice that are client centred, accessible and family inclusive. We are fortunate to enjoy terrific internal relationships and have developed excellent partnerships with the local community that provide for seamless integrated care for our clients.
MHDAS is entering a new phase of co-design of our service system with people who access our services and our wider community. This will build on our nationally recognized unique cultural approach to the challenges of recovery oriented service delivery to redesign our service system.
Barwon Heath’s Mental Health Drugs & Alcohol Services are actively building upon our nationally recognised reputation for innovative clinical programs and integrated models of practice that are consumer centred, accessible and family inclusive. In response to the Royal Commission, a 16 bed Older Adult Acute Mental Health is nearing completion in North Geelong.
This new purpose built facility has a co-designed model of care that is recovery oriented and trauma informed. It will provide clinical inpatient care for consumers aged 50 years+ with acute and sub-acute needs, with onsite facilities for outpatient appointments.
